Here are just a few trails that will get you off the beaten track while walking Southern Illinois! Visit local Ranger offices for free maps to the Shawnee. The Forest Service Rangers might have a suggestion or two as well.

Hike or horse ride for up to 138 miles from Battery Rock on the Ohio River to Grand Tower on the Mississippi River. The trail offers various options for entry and exit.

The name says it all, just under 4 miles of rough trail in a deep canyon offers a great ability to experience the deep forest and it's wildlife!
Ferne Clyffe State Park

One of the few remaining covered bridges in S. Illinois, this 90 foot span is over 146 years old! A great place for a leisurely stroll. While in Chester, visit the statue of "Popeye"!

Another rail bed turned into peaceful country trail! What used to be a narrow gauge rail is now a short 1/2 trail with some access for handicapped.
