ThisIsFun.Com is on a mission to promote tourism in Southern Illinois because it offers a wonderfully diverse opportunity for vacation fun. It is unique in that the location of Southern Illinois is close to Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, and Indiana. Most of the major cross country Interstates intersect with downstate Illinois making it a convenient and affordable destination to drive.

Illinois is long, but narrow "down South"! That means the southern end of Illinois can be traveled from the Ohio to the Mississippi River in about two hours at a leisurely pace! I imagine most young people would rather have fun that sit all day in car, Southern Illinois offers your family that opportunity to see and do a lot without spending all day in the car!

On top of the ease of access, since Southern Illinois has a variety of landscapes, it isn't boring! From the cypress swamps of the Cache River State Natural Area, he canyons of the "Little Grand Canyon" to the hills surrounding Bald Knob, you can visit all sorts of geography in a matter of a short drive.

Sure, there is camping, fishing, golfing, hiking swimming and all those other recreation opportunities in Southern Illinois, but you can't forget the Shawnee Wine Trail, the many antique shops, museums and scenic vistas that make Southern Illinois not just the Midwest's, but one of America's premier vacation destinations!
