Illinois is long, but narrow “down South”! The southern end of Illinois can be traveled from the Ohio to the Mississippi River in about two hours at a leisurely pace! You can do a lot of cool things without spending all day in the car!
Southern Illinois also has a variety of landscapes, from the cypress swamps of the Cache River State Natural Area, to the canyons of the “Little Grand Canyon”. From Bald Knob, or the water tower at Giant City Park, the vistas are awesome.
There is camping, fishing, golfing, hiking swimming and any outdoor sport to suit all flavors and ages. The Shawnee has all sorts of trails, some for hiking, one for tasting some of the fines wines around these here parts! Don’t forget antique shops, museums and historic sites! Southern Illinois not just the Midwest’s, but one of America’s premier vacation destinations!

The revamped site is purposely narrow as well as “tech-light” so as to be friendlier for the various mobile devices that will be the dominate browsing devices in short order. In 2012 mobile browser devices will outsell desktops and laptops. It is likely that if you are traveling, you will brows on an iPhone, iPad, Xoom, or cell phone. The direction here is to address the need for smaller screens to be able to access this content without creating two websites or treating one set of devices like a stepchild.
